One of Nigeria’s most prestigious citadels of learning, University of Ilorin, on Monday held an investiture ceremony to make the Deputy General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, MON, an ambassador of the institution.

The ceremony, which was held inside the university’s auditorium, was in recognition of Dr Ikpeme’s excellent role in projecting and promoting the institution in positive light over the years.

Professor Wahab Egbewole (Senior Advocate of Nigeria), the Vice Chancellor of the university, said: “Through your academic engagements and public presentations, you have consistently portrayed the university in a most favourable light, for which we are deeply appreciative.”

Ikpeme, who obtained his first degree from the University of Ilorin in 1986, recently launched his book, Perspectives on Sports Development in Nigeria: Challenges and Ways Forward.

The former university lecturer and highly-experienced administrator said he authored the book because he felt a “compelling responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on sports development in our nation.”

An erudite academic, Ikpeme lectured at the University of Calabar for several years, before serving as Sole Administrator of the Cross River State Sports Council. He was appointed as deputy secretary general (technical) of the NFF in 2007, before becoming the Deputy General Secretary in March 2015.
