Super Falcons’ Head Coach,  Edwin Okon and striker Asisat Oshoala have both stated that their last Group D match against USA in the on-going FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada is a must-win.

The team, which sits at the bottom of the group with just one point, needs a convincing win against leaders USA to stand a chance of progressing and Okon, at the pre-match press conference, said expectations were high on both sides, but he hopes to carry the day.

“Expectations are high on both sides as the two teams want to win. The game is a must-win for us; there’s no negotiation on that. We have done our part as coaches; it is now left for the girls to believe they can and must win,” Okon said.

Asisat Oshoala also affirmed that it’s a must-win game, adding that its different playing at the senior level but that she is happy she will be playing against big names in the U.S. team.

“It’s a must-win game for us against the United States of America, so that is why we took a walk today to shake it off; to see new things, new stuff and everyone is ready now. It’s a pleasure to play against the likes of Abby Wambach and Hope Solo. It’s going to be exciting playing against such players but we hope to carry the day,” Oshoala emphasized.

The team had the official one hour training Monday evening at the BC Place Stadium. This is a game Super Falcons must win as only the best four of third placed teams will qualify for the

round of 16.
