Senator Obinna Ogba has assured the technical crew and players of the U-23 National Team, Dream Team, of his support at all times in their bid to excel at the forthcoming All-Africa Games and also qualify and do well at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro next year.
Ogba, who is representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly gave this assurance when he visited the FIFA Goal Project training ground of the team over the weekend in Abuja.
Expressing joy that the Dream Team was able to pick a ticket for the 11th All-Africa Games despite facing tough opponents, Sen. Ogba said their qualification has gone a long way to show that there are abundant talents in the country that if properly harnessed can become world beaters in the nearest future.
“From what you guys have done, all I can say is that I am proud of this team led by a seasoned coach like Samson Siasia, who also has capable assistants like Fatai Amoo, Alloy Agu and Monday Odigie. This technical crew has been able to discover new, young and energetic players who will become the future of our football.”
Speaking further, the one-time Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation and presently, Chairman of the Ebonyi State Football Association, said that just as he did in their build-up to picking an All-Africa Games ticket when he brought his team to play the Dream Team, he intends to bring a better team that will not only give the Dream Team a good fight, but will also beat them in a friendly that will be coming up soonest.
He then donated the sum of fifty thousand naira to the players for refreshment.
Responding on behalf of the team, Captain Azubuike Okechukwu thanked Senator Ogba for finding time off his busy schedule, despite being inaugurated barely three days before, to visit them and give them words of encouragement.
He said with support of the Nigeria Football Federation and that of Nigerians of the calibre of Senator Ogba, the sky will be their limit as they intend to not only win the gold at the All-Africa Games, but also pick a ticket to next year’s Olympic Games.
