A former Assistant Coach of the U-20 National Team, Ahmed Abdul popularly known as Pele, has tipped the Golden Eaglets for glory after they handed a 3-0 defeat to Kano Academicals in a friendly match played on Monday at the NFF\FIFA Goal Project Pitch in Abuja.
Victor Osimhen grabbed a first half brace while Kelechi Nwakali added another via the spot kick in a match they could ordinarily have won with a bigger goal margin but for poor marksmanship.
“I’m impressed with the Golden Eaglets though they missed several scoring opportunities,” noted Pele who assisted Samson Siasia to steer the Flying Eagles to runner-up position at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in The Netherlands.”The Golden Eaglets coaching crew just need to work on few grey areas and I’m confident they will be good to go for the World Cup.”
Eaglets’ win against Kano Academicals was a far better performance than last weekend when they trailed 3-1 before forcing Jay-1 Academy to a 3-3 draw as they continue their build-up towards the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be hosted in Chile between October 17 and November 8.
Coach Emmanuel Amuneke said it was important to give both the old and new players equal opportunities to show what they can do before deciding on the pool of players to be picked for a closed camping ahead of the global fiesta.
