Nigeria’s remaining team in the continent, Warri Wolves FC fought a good battle and won 3-1 against visting AC Leopards of Congo-Brazzaville, but were eliminated 4-3 on aggregate from the CAF Confederation Cup following a three –goal deficit from the first leg.
After a very tense but scoreless opening half, Super Eagles’ forward Gbolahan Salami set the Wolves on their way with the opener three minutes after the restart, raising hopes in the stands.
However, the visitors drew level only four minutes after, to create further anxiety among the home crowd at the Warri City Stadium.
The former Sunshine Stars of Akure ace scored his and Wolves’ second in the 72nd minute, before U-23 Team striker Etebo Oghenekaro hit a third for the Nigerian side with three minutes to go.
The result means Leopards qualify into the group phase of this year’s CAF Confederation Cup competition.
