Golden Eaglets, Nigeria’s U-17 team, recorded a flattering 9-0 win against Team Nigeria UK a.k.a soaring Eaglets at the Abuja National Stadium on Wednesday.
Emeka Ebere scored a hat trick and there was also a brace for Suleiman Abdullahi. Other goal scorers for the Eaglets were Chinedu Madueke, Kelechi Nwakali, Orji Promise and Gavi Thompson.
“The match was just another opportunity to test and evaluate our players as we build towards the World Cup in Chile but we are not bothered with the score -line,” noted Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amuneke.”It was good these boys came around from overseas and try to possibly find their way into the team and we are going to sit down and evaluate them.”
Team Nigeria UK, according to Coach David Doherty, would hopefully put up a better performance in the next game fixed for the same venue on Thursday, adding that some of his boys were not at their best since this was their first time in the country.
Dignitaries at Wednesday’s match were NFF 2nd Vice President/LMC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko NFF Executive Committee members Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, Alhaji Ahmad Kawu and Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf ‘Fresh’. Others are NFF Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ikpeme, NFF Technical Director, Coach Shaibu Amodu and U-23 Team Head Coach Coach Samson Siasia, as well as former international players and Player’s Union leaders Dahiru Sadi and Austin Popo.
Wednesday’s match was handled by Referee Odey Benjamin and he was assisted by Peter Bwamba and Hulda Nkwocha while Hannah Elaigwu served as reserve referee.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) has appointed FIFA -licensed referee Abdullahi Shuabu to officiate Thursday’s match between the two teams. Idowu Adepoju and Bose Momoh have also been
appointed as the assistant referees and Philip Ihembe as the reserve referee.
