The Nigeria Football Federation has expressed deep sadness at news of the death of Coach Christopher Alor, who was a member of the technical crew of the Nigeria U20 women national team, Falconets, to the 2010 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup finals in Germany. The respected tactician passed on at the age of 75.

Alor was in the crew that tactically and technically prepared the team for the draws with England and Mexico, and defeat of Japan in the group phase, before the famous penalty-shootout defeat of United States of America in the quarter finals, and 1-0 defeat of Colombia in the semi finals. The team lost 0-2 to Germany in the final but was the first Nigeria women national team to attain a podium appearance at the FIFA World Cup. 

“The NFF mourns deeply the demise of Coach Christopher Alor, for his contributions to Nigerian football, especially his work with young players and his involvement with the national team. His time with the national team was significant in that Nigeria attained a historic feat of earning the FIFA World Cup silver medals in Germany in 2010.

“We pray that God grants his soul eternal rest, and also grant those he has left behind, including his immediate family, friends and the young players that he loved to work with, the fortitude to bear the loss,” NFF’s Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, said on Monday.
